Our Katahdin Opportunity Hub, at 230 Penobscot Avenue

Our Katahdin’s most ambitious on-going Community Development project is located at 230 Penobscot Ave, strategically in the heart of downtown Millinocket.

Our Katahdin has advanced to the pre-construction phase of the project and is expected to begin renovations in the Summer of 2024. Provided the balance of fundraising for the project is completed, we are targeting a January 2026 opening. Please consider supporting this transformative community project.

How will the Our Katahdin Opportunity Hub help the Katahdin region?

Investing in the development and commercialization of technologies that create new markets for forest products residuals.

The market for MeSYS wood pellet boiler technology is still growing as fossil fuel costs have increased rapidly with recent inflationary pressures and increased interest in sustainability and lowered carbon emissions. Our Katahdin intends to use the highly efficient MeSYS boiler system as a statement demonstrating our commitment to sustainable forestry operations in the northern border region states.

Invest in workforce recruitment, development, and training to increase job placement across the forest product continuum.

The Opportunity Hub will be open to all small-business owners and entrepreneurs in the Katahdin region. The second floor will house multiple office areas and conference rooms that can be occupied for training purposes, recruitment, and holding professional industry related meetings.

Support for eligible entities helping to sustain and grow existing forest industry businesses and operations, such as through technical assistance.

Our Katahdin’s community and industrial development mission revolves around the success of our working forest in northern Maine. Our Katahdin employees, volunteers, and board members will utilize the Opportunity Hub to continue engagement with Maine’s forest products industry as the One North Forest Products Campus development continues. We see the facility providing local forestry-related businesses with a convenient location to hold meetings with landowners and contractors, as well as recruitment events in a professional, welcoming space.

Revitalization of rural communities through the diversified use of forests for economic activity to include wood products and advanced materials manufacturing, as well as other economic activity that utilizes northern border forests sustainably for the production of wood products and advanced materials manufacturing.

Opportunity Hub is a critical project for the on-going revitalization of the Katahdin region, located in a highly visible building in downtown Millinocket. Completing the renovation of this building will send a strong message to the local community, visitors and potential forest products developers that the Katahdin region and Millinocket are rebuilding the economy, supporting forest activity through the consumption of wood pellets derived from Maine bio-mass residuals.
