  • Movies in the Park -- *** IN PROCESS!! ***

For the summer months, a blow up Movie projection system could be purchased for the park at the end of Main Street in Millinocket. Movies could be free (or of minimal cost) and people could bring their own blankets or lawn chairs to sit on. I think the downward slope of the park would make it a perfect viewing area. The last time we drove through Medway, East Millinocket and Millinocket, we noticed a lot of food trucks. Movies in the park could be a way to generate business for the food trucks and downtown area restaurants.

Thank you Billie Jo!  We were happy to find out that the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce has supported the equipment for a "Black Fly Theater" (we love the name!).  They make the equipment available to all members.  The primary issue has been licensing of films, but we have identified an umbrella license that will allow for the viewing of movies from a large catalog of titles.  In addition, some equipment needs upgrading and backup equipment is needed.  We are moving forward on this great idea.  Thank you for suggesting this... and thanks to the Katahdin Area Chamber of Commerce for stepping forward as the local leaders!

  • Count me in!

  • Great idea, Mike. I think this underscores the importance of your earlier idea to create a list of assets for the region as well. We need a “sell sheet” for why a company should invest in the Katahdin region. I wonder if one already exists.

  • Compile economic development studies and analyses done in the past

There have been numerous economic development projects over the years that have conducted various studies and analyses.  As a baseline for moving forward, it would be good to:

    1. Compile all of these documents and place them in an accessible location

    2. Assess the gaps in the studies and analyses (some may be dated by now and need to be refreshed)

    3. Prioritize additional studies or analyses to strengthen the case for business to expand to the Katahdin region
